Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I am an afterschool Teaching Fellow working through AmeriCorps at APA in California and at the end of each semester we throw a WOW! event to showcase the work our scholars have done, with friends, family, and the general community attending. To show our appreciation to the scholars and the rest of our community, we hold a raffle and need your help in securing prizes.

We know from experience that raffles like these can help cement our event as a special memory for all attendees, and past Wow events have played a critical role in both building trust with our community and reinforcing the importance of our programs to the scholars.

Our program has an average attendance of about 60 scholars, and we operate from the end of regular school session until 6:00 PM. We serve mostly low-income black and brown students in the heart of our city and it is the explicit mission of our program to help bridge the education gap for scholars like the ones we are serving. Events like this are an important capstone for scholars, and the prizes have been selected according to our many hours of experience with them whether in a classroom setting, during choice time, or even off campus at a sporting event.
