My Students
At our school we are "All in for STEM!" This means that each day we come to school ready to create, problem solve, and aspire to great things. Great things can come from little minds if we have the right supplies!
I teach at a STEM school in Seattle that is full of blooming young minds ready to create.
My students LOVE to plan, tinker and build with engineering materials! We need more materials in our classrooms so that students can explore their engineering minds further each day. Each day students cannot wait to work with materials on the engineering shelf. They consistently teach each other and me about the neat things they can do and imaginative scenarios they come up with to use their creations! It is a fabulously collaborative classroom full of exploration!
My Project
Our class would love to take these engineering materials beyond our everyday exploration and start using them more intentionally with some of our classroom projects. It would be so fabulous to use Hot Wheels ramps and tracks to talk about force and motion in science. Legos could be a great way to start a story that could even move into stop motion movies to share with our families. There is so much potential with engineering materials to incorporate into other areas of learning, and these materials will give us that chance!

We would love to be able to start putting our reading, writing, math, and science skills to the test by using engineering as an alternative method to show what we are learning each day. Not only will this prepare students for the first grade, but it will give them problem solving, creative and collaborative skills that they can take with them and use their entire lives!
