Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

As a first-year middle school English teacher, one of my biggest dreams is to create a welcoming, comfortable space where students fall in love with reading. My students come from a variety of backgrounds, and many don’t have easy access to books outside of school. I want to make sure that when they walk into our classroom, they’re surrounded by stories that reflect who they are—and open windows to new perspectives.

The materials in my DonorsChoose cart include a variety of diverse, engaging books, as well as cozy additions like rugs, pillows, and organizational tools to transform one corner of our room into a dedicated reading nook.

This will be a space where students can curl up with a good book, take a break when they need to reset, and grow their confidence as readers.
