I am a general music teacher at a Title I school in rural North Carolina. We currently have over 550 students enrolled in Kindergarten through Eighth Grades. I teach all students for an hour each week.
Overall, the students enjoy and are interested in music, but I do not have enough of a single type of instrument to provide group instruction on reading and creating music.
We currently have a small number of keyboards, xylophones, hand drums, boomwhackers, and standard classroom instruments (egg shakers, maracas, triangle, rhythm stick, etc).
The students can choose to be in band beginning in 6th grade, but as of now they will have had no previous experience with instruments and if they choose chorus, they never have the opportunity to learn an instrument at our school. I think, financially, it makes the most sense to invest in a classroom set. I am, therefore, seeking help to provide the students with a classroom set of ukuleles. I look forward to hearing the music the students create together!
Thank you for considering helping me and my students.
My Project
A classroom set of ukuleles would greatly enhance our music program. Students will better meet the music standards we strive to teach.
Elementary students will be able to put their learning of the elements and symbols of music into practice.
Students will learn to work together and play together to create something beautiful that they can be proud of. Students that don't like to sing will be better equipped to enjoy learning music. The students' work will be showcased at our Spring and Fall Concerts. Middle School Chorus students that would not have had the opportunity to learn an instrument, now will!
