Transitional kindergarten is a magical and very important time in a child's education. Often, it is their first time in an educational setting. What they experience during their first year of school can and will determine their attitude for their remaining educational years.
We are a groups of 23 wide-eye and curious children eager to learn all we can during our first year of formal education.
We are located in a small district of 5 elementary schools in a small town in northern Orange County, California. We come from all types of families and backgrounds. Being part of a small district means that educational enhancement opportunities are not always available to us.
Young children learn best in environments that encourage exploration and play. Traditional classroom furniture does not allow for the freedom of movement and exploration that young children need to encourage learning.
Bean bag chairs, floor rug, and a child sized couch will allow the children a comfortable place to sit and explore books.
A classroom library that gives children an opportunity to explore books will help to create a desire to learn to read.
Art can make learning fun and help reach children who learn through non-traditional ways. Art easels will make it easier for children to explore learning through art. Painting the letters of the alphabet and objects that begin with a specific letter can make learning fun.
