This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our Engineering Lab serves students kindergarten through 5th grade, so every student (all 440) at our elementary school uses the lab. Our school is a Title I school, where two-thirds of our school population are English Language Learners, so hands-on visual learning activities in engineering are important for their language and academic growth. About 95% of our kids are considered socioeconomically disadvantaged.

Coding is a vital STEM skill that our students have been learning in our Engineering Lab.

We are so fortunate that our school was able to purchase seven Dash robots for our new coding curriculum. This is the only exposure that most, if not all, of our students have had to coding, especially incorporating robots. It is so important for these students to be able to have unique learning opportunities like this.

My Project

With your generous support, we will be able to utilize our seventh Dash robot (that we are currently unable to use) with our new Amazon Fire tablet. Without this tablet, we would not be able to access the apps that are necessary for us to code with this robot. This tablet will bring our engineers tons of new learning opportunities!

With your help we can create an additional robot group, making the remaining groups smaller, which means more opportunity for hands-on learning for each student.

Additionally, to ensure the longevity of our new tablet, we want to make sure it is fully protected with a sturdy case. We'd also make excellent use of a rolling storage cart to safely charge our robots. Currently we have them charging on the floor by outlets. We want to make sure we take the best care of our robots so we can use them as long as possible!
