My students need 4 comfortable bean bag chairs for our pleasure reading station.

Nearly half of all Americans aged 18-24 do not read for pleasure. This is statistic. I want my current 6th graders to change by fostering a love for pleasure reading within my classroom. Help them be that change by providing a cozy reading nook for them to enjoy their books!
I am lucky enough to love walking into my school every single day.
It is a place that values the individual needs of students, the development of a strong community, and a place that aims to grow book lovers for life. My students are a vibrant group of 6th graders from all over Washington, DC. Their backgrounds are diverse and they come together to form a unique community and culture where all students can thrive.
In my 6th grade English classroom, we have a pleasure reading station. Currently this space is filled with desks and chairs, but I would love to replace some of the conventional school furniture with comfortable bean bag chairs to encourage students to cozy up with a great book. I know that environment affects outcomes in a classroom and I believe that giving students a place to relax as they read will encourage them even more.
My aim is to create lifelong readers-something that is lacking in our current society.
I want pleasure reading to be on the incline instead of declining year after year as it is now. By creating a fun and comfortable reading environment in my classroom, I know I will help create lifelong book lovers.
