My Students

My students are participating in Disney's Planet Challenge and are attempting to pilot a mostly paperless classroom program at our school site. We have decided to reuse our worksheets and tests each year by putting them in sheet protectors and marking the sheet protectors with dry erase markers.

I teach 3rd and 4th grade in a Highly Gifted Magnet school.

My students are identified as having an IQ of 145 or above, and have the potential to be tomorrow's leaders. One third of my students are English Language Learners, demonstrating their brilliance despite a language barrier. Because of their highly gifted identification, I make every effort to differentiate their curriculum to best suit their diverse needs. They are exceptional, but not just because of their intellect. They are truly a joy to know and I feel incredibly fortunate to be their teacher.

My Project

By providing these sheet protectors, my students will begin what is sure to be a life-changing experiment. We will keep careful records of our paper consumption and our conservation, find new ways of presenting classroom work, take tests and submit papers on line, and learn how to think outside the box in order to save our environment. This is the first step toward my students becoming part of a change and contributing to a movement that will last their lifetime.

Your assistance with this project will tremendously benefit not only my current students, but our entire school as we endeavor to pilot a paperless classroom and share our experience with others.

It will also begin a lifetime of awareness and responsibility in these kids to conserve and reuse and recycle. We so appreciate your consideration.
