This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach at a school that is in a low-socioeconomic area. My kindergarten students are a big part of my team! They are primarily Hispanic and English Language Learners. Currently, I have 12 girls and 12 boys. They come from very needy families and often times they only get enriching experiences while they are at school.
They are eager to learn, hopeful, and easily influenced by their surroundings.
They love to display their work on our walls for family and peers to see. They deserve all the support we can give them!
My Project
With your support, students will be able to use the requested materials for social play. Social play is especially important in kindergarten so students can practice new vocabulary and learn how to interact with each other appropriately.
Several of my students are English language learners and many do not have basic vocabulary (such as food items) in their English repertoire.
Not only will my students be able to use these items for interactive play, but also I will have realistic looking examples of food items to use during health and wellness activities and to expand this genre of vocabulary. It is imperative to work with this realia to increase students schema and engage them.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
