My Students
My students are 5th graders at a small, neighborhood school. We have a tight-knit school and community. Our school is a Global School, which means that our students learn about the world around them and how to be good global citizens.
My students come to school each day eager and willing to learn about the world around them.
Our school is home to a centrally located autism program. We serve students with autism from throughout the county in this program. Many of these students are able to spend part of their day in our classrooms. In my classroom, I work tirelessly to create an environment where every learner is able to succeed!
My Project
My students will read the novel "Amal Unbound" as part of The Global Read Aloud - One Book to Connect the World. Each of my students needs a copy of the novel so that they can be engaged in the reading.
The story of Amal is an inspiring tale of a young Pakistani girl who aspires to be a teacher, but faces adversity.
As the eldest daughter, Amal is forced to stay home from school to help raise her younger siblings. She faces many challenges, but ultimately never gives up on her dreams.
My dream is to place a copy of this book in each of my students' hands so they can be inspired by Amal's story. We will read the novel as a class, and complete many different activities. I have already set up several opportunities for my students to connect to students all around the world who will be reading the same book at the same time!
