Our school is located on the beautiful island of Hawaii. With a student population of well over 800 students in grades K-5, my students come from diverse backgrounds. They come to school with smiles on their faces and the willingness to try whatever may come their way.
They are fun loving, enthusiastic and caring.
They are unique in so many ways.
Their thirst for knowledge is contagious and the pureness in their hearts are sincere. The lessons I learn from my Kindergartners are priceless and immeasurable.
My Project
I am humbly asking for an air purifier and fans to help my students breathe a little easier as we continue to experience the effects of Kilauea. Currently I do not have the luxury of air conditioning in my classroom and I rely on a few outdated fans and the trade winds. Kilauea volcano has erupted continuously since 1983; it released 1800 to 10000 metric tons of sulfur dioxide per day between 2000-2010. Currently due to recent activity, our island has had an increase of sulfur dioxide.
The vog has an effect on everyone, students with asthma or other respiratory conditions are especially vulnerable.
Lastly, I humbly ask for microphones so my kindergartners can document and express their feelings through a video diary. We have already experienced two earthquakes in a single day and we don't know what the future holds. Creating a safe and happy environment for my students is always my number one priority!
