it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
We are the Cougars, and we just finished our first year as a team! Our middle school never had a cheer team before, but our 6th, 7th and 8th graders were determined to make it happen. They created a petition and got over 100 signatures. They wrote letters to administration to convince them to approve the club. They even tracked down and "hired" their own teacher-coach (me). It's been amazing seeing these 20 outstanding young ladies grow in confidence, feel pride in their school, and learn to use their cheer voice! There is only one barrier standing in our way - the cost! Cheerleading, from the uniforms to the safety equipment to hair bows, is an expensive sport. The team is ready for the next step, but we have not been able to practice any tumbling or stunts because we do not have the right safety equipment. So many students have asked about stunting, and I want to try and make it happen for them this year.
With your help we can get the equipment we need to tumble and stunt safely.
A cheer mat would protect students in case of falls and prevent injuries. It would allow us to expand our skills and try new techniques.
