One of the things I admire most is their self-awareness—when they feel overwhelmed, several students independently ask for a break or a quiet space. This kind of emotional maturity shows their commitment to staying in control of their learning. Thanks to your generosity, our new classroom library and SEL corner have become the perfect environment for them to read, regulate, and recharge.\r\n\r\nThe addition of high-interest book series like One Piece, Dragon Ball Z, Cat Kid Comic Club, Percy Jackson, and Diary of a Wimpy Kid has already transformed how reading looks in our classroom. These texts help introduce important literacy skills such as sequence of events, character traits, point of view, and text-to-self connections—all through stories that match my students' interests and reading levels. Each day, students gather in the library corner, choose from the colorful book bins, and settle into reading with genuine excitement. Even some of my most reluctant readers are now eagerly trading books, retelling chapters to their classmates, and asking thoughtful questions about the characters and themes.\r\n\r\nSome students have formed a special bond with the space. One student who often feels overwhelmed now goes to the SEL corner to hold a sensory disc while reading Diary of a Wimpy Kid, using the time to both calm down and practice fluency. Another student who rarely chose books independently has worked through nearly the entire Cat Kid Comic Club series, proudly sharing that the illustrations help him understand the story better. Tools like the feelings chart, sticky situation cards, and Play-Doh have helped students express emotions, take meaningful breaks, and return ready to learn. Because of you, my students now have a safe, organized, and welcoming place where both their hearts and minds can grow.
