Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Where I teach, we have a lot of students who are hungry to learn. These students put in long hours before and after school, and we even go to competitions on Saturdays. Sometimes they wake up before six a.m. just to go! Our student population is very diverse, but primarily Hispanic. A number of our students are English language learners from Mexico.
Even though diversity is great among the student population, the common thread among them is to learn things that have an impact on their lives.
When education is presented to them in a "real" way, they are excited about it.
It is very fulfilling to see them work hard and put a lot of elbow grease into learning. At the end of the day, I just want to see these students develop a passion for learning. These students are ready to rise above the teacher shortages and school funding hurdles to achieve something great!
My Project
This school year my students have worked hard to fundraise to build up the STEM resources and activities at our school. We also entered a contest and won some money for resources.
We need to fill out the classroom with chairs and folding tables to make the proper work area for the students to work on computer science, chess, extracurricular mathematics, robotics, and STEM projects.
We have done things this year ranging from a robotics painting project, creating a prosthetic arm with a 3D printer, practicing for the UIL computer science competition, and more.
The efficiency of space in my classroom needs to be maximized in order to maximize learning. We have mapped out our room so that we are able to get the most of it, and these tables are apart of that plan.
