Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

This is my first year teaching students with moderate/severe disabilities. Due to severe budget cuts my classroom really has nothing but desks. I am finding it difficult to help my students reach their potential without the proper materials.

I have students with severe cognitive disabilities, students with Autism, and students who are intellectually disabled.

I work for an inner-city school and my students are currently experiencing all the labels associated to special education. We are in a classroom that is not suited for students with special needs.

My Project

Providing my students with picture vocabulary cards will help them communicate. Providing the Step Curriculum will allow me to have an actual curriculum that is aimed to help students with moderate/severe disabilities. The bean bag, soft ball, etc will help my students who are working on gross motor skills. These materials will help us start an actual classroom. We currently don't have any materials besides the usual paper and pencil.

The donation will make a huge impact on my students.

My students currently seat in a classroom that is not suited to meet their needs. My students will actually have hands-on materials to use. I am trying to prove to my school that special education students are capable and ready to participate in general education classes. I want to create a classroom that is suitable for students with special needs. I want to create a classroom where my students feel comfortable and are able to learn.
