Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My student-athletes play offensive line for our high school football team. Each of my student-athletes come from very different cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds, which promotes teamwork and learning to work with others in a positive, productive manner.
Each day the student-athletes attend practice and give their all, even after a full day of working hard in the classroom.
The students are training to become the best offensive line that they can be. Throughout their hard work at practice, the student-athletes are learning to be respectful, work as a team, communicate effectively, perseverance, and determination. In hopes of working hard, I hope that the students will learn to become positive contributors to our community and learn how to be productive members in our society.
My Project
Let me introduce myself. I am a special education teacher and I coach varsity football. As a former football player in high school and college, I realize the values that I learned through being a part of a team.
The values I learned and that students learn shape our lives!
These values include: taking responsibility, accountability, working together for the greater good, and a sense of belonging. Some students do not necessarily have a safe, structured home life to go home to at the end of the day.
Our offensive line is part of the bigger team. Our equipment is really old, smelly, irreparable, and downright embarrassing. I am seeking a wall ball to teach proper technique with football-related movements. We are in desperate need of resistance bands to help build muscle to reduce the likelihood of injury. Finally, the blocking dummy will help us with being able to practice safely while learning to execute our tasks. Thank you, in advance, for your time and consideration.
