This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
This community service project will allow our fifth grade Environmental Stewardship Club to build seventeen Corsi-Rosenthal boxes for our cafeteria, our third through fifth grade classrooms, our exercise and vocal classrooms, and more. These portable air filters will clean our indoor air and help protect our students and teachers against airborne contaminants like dust, smoke, and pollution, as well as flu, cold, and virus particles.
Help us give our students classrooms with clean air by providing the materials to build high-quality portable air filters for our elementary school classrooms.
Our fifth grade Environmental Stewardship Club are dedicating their recess and a free period every week towards this community service project, as they learn how to build Corsi-Rosenthal boxes and improve the indoor air throughout our school. They are also learning STEM skills and becoming community scientists as they build the portable air filters.
So far this school year, our Environmental Club has already successfully built portable air cleaners for our pre-k through second grade classrooms, and is eager to build and install additional air cleaners for the rest of the school. This project builds on our 2022-23 project where our fifth grade class built three Corsi-Rosenthal box and built a website to educate the school community about lung health and the importance of clean indoor air.
The Corsi-Rosenthal box works as well as many of the best commercial air filters, but at a fraction of the cost. Keeping students healthy will reduce absenteeism and keep students in school and learning.
