My Project

My first graders are full of life. They have BIG feelings and often, at this age, don't quite know what to do with those feelings. I would love to give them a special place in our classroom where they can go to have a few minutes to work through those big feelings.

Our Castle of Calm will be a safe and welcoming destination in our classroom where students can process their feelings of sadness, anger, anxiety, and frustration.

They will be able to do deep breathing exercises using posters and books to promote mindfulness. The sensory manipulatives will give them a way to channel their energy and reduce restlessness.

Our Castle of Calm will support self-regulation while keeping students in the classroom when they need a break from instruction. It will help us work on our social and emotional learning. It will give my students the ability to recognize their feelings which is so very important.
