My students need a telescope, replicas of the solar system, butterflies and lady beetles with habitats, and food to gain a richer understanding of third grade science.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
To truly learn science, my students will have to observe, analyze, hypothesize, and experiment. They will not be able to do so by just reading. They will need to observe real living things, like butterflies and lady beetles. They will have to explore the motions and relationships of the planets.
I teach a very diverse group of students.
Culturally, they have roots in Mexico, Central and South America, India, the Philippines, Korea, Egypt, Nigeria, and various parts of the United States. Twelve of my twenty-three students are English language learners. Many of my students come from working class families who have limited resources to invest in their educations. Despite that challenge, my students' parents are involved in their children's educations and my students work hard and are extremely eager to learn.
My Project
In third grade, students learn about the planets in our solar system, the phases of the moon, and the study of these objects through the use of telescopes. I have interesting, well-illustrated books that they will use to do so. The inflatable planets and telescope that you are funding will enrich what they learn from reading.
Students also learn about the inter-relationship between organisms and the environment. I have books about this topic too. But students will learn far more if they are able to raise and care for animals, such as Painted Lady Butterflies and ladybugs. As they do, they will observe, record, discuss, write, and hypothesize about their interaction with the environment.
I have books on the solar system and plants and animals for my students to read.
I need your help to obtain the butterflies, ladybugs, and astronomy tools that will bring the content of these books to life!
