I recently came across a quote by George RR Martin, saying, "A reader lives a thousand lives before he dies. The man who never reads lives only one." My amazing students deserve the chance to learn about diverse cultures, places, people, and situations in appropriately leveled texts.
The scholars that would benefit from these books are first and second grade ladies and gentlemen.
They are from very different backgrounds and are at vastly different levels, especially in reading. These scholars are hungry to learn, they enjoy talking about opinions and perspectives, and they need more opportunities to be exposed to new ideas and things. I am constantly impressed by what my scholars can handle, regardless of their very young age.
My Project
Students will use these books at many times throughout each week. We will be able to use these books for teacher read-aloud lessons, for individual work in reading comprehension lessons, to practice reading fluency in independent and small group reading time, and during partner reading in our classes as well as with older Reading Buddies that each crew has.
These books will enrich so much of our learning, exposing scholars to different experiences, ideas, people, and places, as well as helping them build skills as readers. Also the books will give students appropriate opportunities for learning.
Please help me create lifelong readers!
Many of the scholars have not had many opportunities to experience differences.
Books help transport us to different places, meeting different people, and sometimes into different worlds. Books help us see things in new ways, put ourselves into others' situations, and even learn about ourselves.
Also, my scholars need to be able to access literature, and high-quality literature. These scholars range in level, so I want to make sure that each scholar is appropriately challenged and engaged.
