I teach in a very unique and special place with brilliant young student musicians. They delight in new challenges and love to play, create and explore the art of music. Our campus serves three grade levels and all of these students share one portable classroom for a variety of music activities that include singing, movement, composition, improvisation, recorders, and beginning band. My students are joyful music makers and my hope is that this project will help me to better address their educational needs.
My Project
In order to accommodate all of the activities that come with a well-rounded music curriculum, we need to make full use of our rehearsal space. There is no transition time between classes. One group leaves and the next arrives. This schedule limits our ability to reset the room for different kinds of musical configurations. Throughout most of the year, we split into sections or mini-ensembles and some of our students rehearse in the cafeteria. We currently transport stands manually between rehearsal spaces. The Manhasset Storage Cart I am requesting holds up to 25 music stands and will help us to better utilize our space with proper storage so that we can integrate more movement and learning games into the curriculum and move between rehearsal spaces more efficiently to maximize rehearsal time.
