My Students
Please help make learning fun for struggling students and prepare them for the future!
I am currently teaching twelve 1st grade students with multiple disabilities, within a 12:1:1 setting.
My school is a public school within a low-income, urban setting in New York City. Some of the disabilities my students deal with include autism, speech impairments, learning disabilities, ADHD, and emotional issues.
My Project
Despite the fact that my students are so young, they are already not confident and discouraged. So many of them have been told that they are "slow" or "not smart enough". This has made them less likely to take a chance in fear of making mistakes in the classroom. However, when using the SMARTBoard it is as if they forget they are in class and lose their insecurities. They have become confident in trying and working on the interactive SMARTBoard. They enjoy working with technology and don't even realize they are learning. I have made several educational activities for the SMARTBoard. These games are fun for them while teaching them at the same time. However, they have become too familiar with the ones I have and need new technological games to play. I would also like an organizer to store the games and follow-up activities for the students to work on after playing the game.
My class would really benefit from technological games.
These games could be used during centers and during free time to build the skills they are lacking. The games will also help them to build technology skills for the future. Your help will ensure that my students build their reading, technology, and self-confidence skills. It would mean so much to me and my students if we could receive these games!
