My Students

I teach a precious, diverse group of students. I love that my students come to school each day eager to learn new things and challenge themselves. They are dedicated to their schoolwork and making teaching fun!

My school is 91.8% poverty, yet my students come to school every day eager to learn and grow.

I adore teaching my students! My students come from a very mixed background socially, ethnically, and economically. Yet, they mix together as a classroom group beautifully.

My Project

Some people may think that graphic novels are uninteresting. Others may think that graphic novels are only for beginning readers. My 7th graders would highly disagree.

"Graphic novels help me better understand and visualize what I am reading." I cannot tell you how many times I hear this statement in my 7th grade leaders in literacy class.

I teach a high poverty and high ESOL population of students. These students like to read graphic novels because it helps them better understand and visualize what they are reading. My students have a dedicated 30 minutes each school day that they are able to read books of their choice. When they have graphic novels, they are fully engaged the entire time.

I would love to have some more graphic novels added to my classroom library to encourage literacy among my students. This way my students will have an ample supple of graphic novels to choose from during sustained reading time. By reading novels that keep them fully engaged, they will in turn become stronger readers and grow academically.
