My Students
How can we close the achievement gap when students do not have the necessary materials to succeed?
My students are from a very high poverty area made up of mostly Native American students.
Over 90% of our students qualify for the free lunch program. Most of these students depend on their tribe to give them the most basic of supplies needed for school. They are only given supplies to start the year off and usually only last the first month or so.
My Project
The supplies will help all my students be able to show their work to me while working in a whole group atmosphere. Having the Expo markers will allow us to use the white boards daily. In math, we always show our work. Sometimes we make mistakes and the erasers will help us to correct our mistakes. Pencils are a very important supply for us to have every day. This teacher goes through at least 2 pencil sharpeners a year. So it is very important for us to have a strong, fast and dependable pencil sharpener to get us through the year.
