My students need to prepare themselves for jobs in the areas of janitorial, office support and food services. The janitorial cart and corresponding items will help do this, as well as for daily living.
I teach in a self-contained life skills setting. This means that all my students are special needs, requiring extra help with daily living skills to increase their overall independence and prepare them for adulthood, as well as acquire vocational skills to successfully enter the workforce.
I am starting a new classroom and require vocational and daily living materials in order to guide students to a life of independence.
All of my students are classified as mild to moderate intellectually challenged. They are loving and require a lot of patience and time to acquire new skills. By having hands on opportunities to learn with the materials that I requested, it will increase their chances of success.
My Project
The unemployment rate for special needs adults is at an alarmingly high rate. By exposing students to the skills they will need to obtain gainful employment, will increase their chances of getting a job after graduation.
The items that I have requested will train my students in the areas of janitorial, hospitality, office, and food services.
They will learn to wash floors and tables, vacuum, stock customer food items, and shred paper. All of these skills will look great on the resumes!
By exposing kids to the skills early on, they will have many years of experience by the time it is time to enter the workforce. This will increase their chances of employment in adulthood and become contributing members of society, As well as increase their self-esteem.
