Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Everyday I remind my students that each day is a fresh opportunity for discovery and learning about the ever changing world around them. Unfortunately, most of my students come to school hungry, need to overcome learning difficulties, or need to develop self confidence.
My students attend a public school located in South Los Angeles.
The school is located in an economically disadvantaged community plagued by gangs and crime. Some of my students have been affected in some way by violence or crime. Despite their home situations, all of my students have demonstrated a strong desire to learn.
My Project
I am requesting an Apple MacBook Air to use for researching the Internet for educational resources, to allow students to present computer based projects using programs such as Microsoft PowerPoint and Apple iWorks, and for publishing student essays onto a classroom digital newspaper. Our current hardware lacks the compatibility to run such programs and or is broken and cannot be easily repaired. Recently many of my students have expressed a desire to use Microsoft PowerPoint to add multimedia features to their work. For many of my struggling writers, being allowed to use a computer has become a great motivational tool.
Your donation will empower my students' learning by allowing them to access the vast educational resources of the Internet and to share their hard work.
I strongly believe that my students are learning to become better writers, be more independent thinkers, and become life long learners that will contribute to their community.
