My Project

My students need hands-on experiences in order to help them learn about financial literacy. The second-grade social studies curriculum includes a unit on economics.

The students learn about things such as wants/needs, scarcity, supply/demand, and spending/saving.

I would like to provide my students with a fun and engaging way to learn about these topics. The keychains, spiky bouncy balls, animal plush toys and other items will be used to create a mock store situation. This will give my students the opportunity to learn about managing inventory, calculating costs, and determining prices. The students will be given the opportunity to earn classroom cash throughout the week. On Fridays, they will have to decide on whether or not they want to spend or save their classroom cash. They will have to keep up with their own balances in order to know how much they have to spend each week.
