My Students

Our class is an ASD Nest program, which is a program for high functioning students with autism that takes place in an integrated co-teaching classroom. The NEst program helps chidlren learn how to function well academically, behaviorally and socially in school and in their community. Our biggest challenge in class is having stories that relate to their social issues as well as their feelings. Julia Cook is an author who was a former teacher and school counselor who wrote so many books for children that help learn poper behavior as well as problem solving skills. Many children know and understand what is expected from them but many children need to that lesson. Our library has non fiction books, which are fabulous but our 1st graders can not read them. They are too hard for them so finding books to help them during a lesson or activity can be extremely challenging.

Our students, are simply amazing.

Each one of our students have a heart of gold. They are all unique in their own way. Luckily enough our students all support each other and thrice academically and socially in a family like setting. Our school, is an inner city school, and many of our students do not have the opportunity to have resources to help them learn. Also many of our children do not have books at home to help them research information.

My Project

Our childern come to school excited and ready to learn each and every day. Our students area at varying degrees of reading levels, and we need books to help them read especially in non -fiction. Many of the books in our library are way to difficult for them to read and comprehend. We really need books to help them be able to read and comprehend. We also need to build our library with books to help build our social skills. Many of Julia Cook' s books are colorful, and appropriate for many situations that we encounter. We would also love to have ink, to help create visuals, vocabulary cards and task cards to help our children in different situations.

Your donations would mean the world to our class.

We just want to help our students grow not only acadmically but socially. We want them to continue building their independence. These donations will help the students with not only reading but word study as well. Donating to our children is showing them compassion and empathy, which we are trying to focus on with our children. We can not thank you enough for donating to our children. They brighten up our lives everyday.
