Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
When students have little home support and not enough money to buy a book, they need US!
I am a second year teacher working at a Title One school.
I teach the inclusion class and have many special needs that need to be met. My students struggle in reading and this year I am focused on improving reading in my classrooms. This will be a huge challenge with little home support and English being a second language for many families.
My Project
The materials I have selected to help my students are reading based. The easel will provide a way for me to teach small groups reading groups in an interactive way. The students can practice their spelling and writing on the white boards. The opposite side has a pocket chart that will allow me to create interactive activities for the students based on their reading levels and abilities. The books I selected are standard 2nd grade books that many students are interested in and enjoy reading. Stone Soup is a book that teaches a lesson (a fable). This books will help students learn fables at their reading levels. I have noticed in the past that many students struggle with this and I know the activity will improve their comprehension. The trackers will allow students to concentrate on the words and not be distracted. It will also improve fluency in reading. I look forward to using these materials in the classroom to improve all students reading ability.
Reading is a VERY important subject and all students struggle with comprehension.
I really need these materials to make my students better readers. With little support at home I need all the help I can get!!!
