Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

“ I like school better than home” this is often said to me by my students of different ages, ethnicities, genders and religions. The one thing my students have in common is that they are living in poverty. Many of my students live in homes without heat, running water, food, and a bed to sleep in.

My students deserve more!!!

I cannot change the hardships and circumstances my students inevidentaly face, but I’d like to change my classroom. I want to create a warm, welcoming classroom that my students can call, “ their home away from home.” I’d like to create a safe space for my students to learn and thrive.

My Project

My students often go home to an empty house without heat, bedding, and food. The furniture will help students feel safe and at home. The carpet and pillows add to the welcoming environment and allow students to do their school work and reading comfortably- in turn they will be able to focus and be successful. My students deserve and need a place to call their own. A place that they can retreat to and a place that is welcoming as they often do not feel safe and/or welcomed in their own environment. You will help me provide a safe haven for my students and they will finally have an opportunity to be successful as their basic needs will be met.
