Help Us Afford Enzyme Catalysis Kits Needed for AP Lab!

My students need Enzyme Catalysis kits in order to perform the required AP Biology Laboratory #2. Please help! It is essential to their understanding of enzyme kinetics.

My Students

The immediate challenge my AP students will face is preparing for the extremely difficult AP Biology Exam in May. Along with having to understand biological processes, vocabulary, and data analysis, they will also be tested on their knowledge and understanding of the 12 required AP labs.

My students are great, and they LOVE doing lab investigations, especially labs of this caliber (or as they like to call them "real, no-joke" labs!) We are a very high poverty district, and unfortunately most of our students do not pursue college after graduation.

Many of those that do pursue college fail or drop out due to their lack of preparedness. ALL of my AP students should be pursuing college or some other career training program after high school. I'd love to be able to properly prepare them for college-level science labs NOW, while they're impressionable and in a more supportive educational system (we all now how it's sink or swim once you get to the college level!) Although we are in NO way a wealthy district, I believe our kids are just as deserving of a wealthy school district education so they can be equally successful after high school! Also, if they can pass the end of the year AP Biology exam, they can begin earning college credit!

My Project

Next year, I'll have 42 students enrolled in AP Biology (2 full classes.)If we receive these kits, then the students can properly conduct the required AP lab investigation where they observe the function of enzymes and analyze and calculate the rate at which enzymes break down harmful by products produced by the body. They will also test the effects of different variables that may speed up or slow down these chemical reactions. Understanding how enzymes work is essential to passing the AP biology exam. There is also a high possibility that they'll encounter specific questions about this exact investigation. With your help, we'll get these kits, perform the investigations, and become better prepared for that AP exam! Also, whether they pass the exam or not, performing this college-level lab will give them good experience that will serve them once they get to the actual college level. It might even inspire some to pursue a college education in the field of science!

While I want so desperately for our kids to get these kits to enhance their knowledge of enzymes, I'd also like our kids to realize that the world is full of generous people that think their education is worth investing in!

They have reached a point in their lives that they are able to understand a little better how our school compares to other "fancier" districts. It would be a great life lesson for them to experience first hand the impact that charitable donors can have in the world.
