My Students

George Washington High School is one of the most diverse high schools in Philadelphia. The student body at GW is comprised of students from 70 different countries and speaking more than 40 languages. Seventy-five percent of the students at the high school qualify for free lunch and live at or close to the poverty line, in a district with dwindling resources. Students at George Washington can excel academically if sufficient funds are invested in these students. One area in which these students lack, as do other students in urban schools, is in healthy life habits.

My Project

We have all been bored in class at some point in our lives. One of the best benefits of having technology in the classroom is that it enriches instruction. That is also why I love using project-based learning. Students have chosen to make the community healthier for their project and this requires access to technology in order to maximize their reach. Philadelphia is a rather large city, but these students are determined to reach as many people as they can!

By having Chromebooks available to work on, students will be able to work on creating websites, creating mobile apps and create lesson plans to teach high school youth and elementary- age children.
