Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our students are English language learners mostly from central and South America. They face many challenges economically, socially and academically and we believe reading can fight these challenges head on and pave the way to success!
My colleague and I teach 2nd grade bilingual students mostly from Honduras and Salvador.
Many of our parents have not had the benefit of formal education and have brought themselves and their children to the United States, as in most cases, for a better life. We live in a suburban area, close to a major metropolis, but our children lead very sheltered lives with limited resources at home and most unfortunately in school. We are fortunate enough to be able to work with our kids again next year as they transition from 2nd to 3rd grade and we want to provide them with books and bags to call their own and practice over the summer to help prevent academic loss!
My Project
This project works in conjunction with our other summer reading projects to help our students continue reading over the summer. We are requesting books and bags to call their own and help prevent reading loss. We are also creating a website for our students to check online assignments and will have a book exchange over the summer to keep reading alive!
Reading provides such necessary skills for survival and success.
So many people are held back because they have not had the advantages that we are able to provide. Donors like you have already changed the way we learn and teach and we hope that this can help too!
