My Students
I am excited to join an amazing faculty at an urban middle school.
My amazing students love to read!
We have a book club where they meet Mondays after school to discuss the week's reading and connect with others of like mind. They come up with questions to ask each other about what they've read and have become very good friends so far this year. Additionally, I run a Dungeons and Dragons club. These gamers come after school once a week to play for an hour. Kids from both clubs, as well as their friends, spend a lot of time in the library before school, during lunch, and after school.
Our middle school sits in the inner-city area of Los Angeles, California. One hundred percent of our scholars receive free breakfast, lunch, and dinner due to economic conditions at home. They are mostly Hispanic and African-American scholars who live in the South Central area of Los Angeles.
My Project
With the gardeners, barking dogs, trucks, and all the ambient noises outside, I have come to realize that my students can barely hear me as we travel on our distance learning adventure! It would be so wonderful to have a microphone and headphones in order to focus the sound directly into my laptop. Additionally, I would love to have a small whiteboard and markers to use while teaching from home.
My students are losing interest in school in general, and part of this is because they cannot access all the information if they cannot hear me.
Please, help me fight their ennui and let them hear me clearly!!
