My Students
Students are always looking for an outlet to release stress, have fun, build skills, and develop friendships outside the realm of the classroom. Team sports is a great way for students to have a full rounded high school experience, while engaging in an activity they enjoy.
My students come from diverse cultural backgrounds, but they all share a love of soccer.
Their diversity spans across five different continents, and our team consists of students combined from all three schools in our building complex. They have a wonderful ability of accepting one another and becoming like a family. They function as a family unit with one purpose, which is to build their soccer skills in order to have a successful and productive soccer season. Our school thrives on high academic rigor, which can, at times, cause the importance of sports to be overlooked. Our students unite to remind our administrators of the need for sports teams in a school environment. They are motivated to support their team in any way possible.
My Project
Before our new soccer season begins, we are in need of new soccer balls. These will be used at both practice and games. Each season soccer balls get lost and destroyed. Therefore, this is a necessity once the new season begins. Our goalie gloves became very worn out from our amazing goalie last season and need to be replaced as well. We also found that small goals would be useful to have during small sided games at practice. With these resources, students will be able to continue working on their passing, dribbling, and shooting skills during practice in order to be prepared for a successful season.
Our students have a passion and love for soccer.
Having a school soccer team builds school spirit, as well as pride in oneself. It also opens up opportunities for college since scouts may begin to take notice of our school and our players. This could possibly lead to scholarships. The friendships and connections they make during a soccer season will last a lifetime. Working with their coaches and teammates provides them with a valuable opportunity to build their soccer skills.
