Our school has over 1,000 students from a variety of backgrounds and ethnicities. They love STEM lessons, experiments, experiences, and hands-on activities. I want to make an active, engaging environment, but we need supplies to take our whole school PBL theme of racing to a whole new level!
These students are from a variety of backgrounds, are inquisitive, and intelligent.
They throw all of their energy into our activities, prompting me to continuously look for the next "best thing" out there to spark even more interest.
My Project
Our school works very hard to make sure each year tops the year before. This year we are doing a racing theme and want each and every child to be able to step into the car and attempt a race to the finish line! In order to do this, we really need the support from the community to order some PC computer towers and steering wheel setups.
Each child from Kindergarten to 5th grade will be able to compete in order to live out a genuine race car driving experience.
We will be taking turns in each classroom, on each grade level, to give students the opportunity to drive in a simulated race. This will help students to understand the differences between types of track materials, the angle of the turn and why the shape of a race track is so important. Students will take this knowledge back into the classroom as they design a variety of race track models and racing cars through a variety of PBLs on each grade level. Without this real-world tether, students would have difficulty imagining what it is actually like to drive on a race track.
