Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Project

We are a PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Support) District. We M.O.P.E.; We Meet our responsibilities; Offer Respect and Kindness; Proceed with Focus and Exercise Safety. The students earn Stingers by engaging in positive behaviors that they can redeem for rewards throughout the school year. This year our goal was to reduce office discipline referrals by 10% from the previous year. I am happy to say we have done that. The M.O.P.E. Mobile played a huge role in this effort. Students are rewarded with prizes from the M.O.P.E. mobile when they perform well on classroom tests and for engaging in positive behavior.

Our students love hearing their names called over the intercom announcing for them to come to the main office to choose whatever they want from the cart.

The positive impact this has on the culture of the school is immeasurable. As you can imagine, keeping the M.O.P.E. mobile stocked throughout the year is expensive with most funds coming from fundraisers, the staff and generous donors.

The culture of a school impacts the academic success of students and reduces negative behaviors. We want to keep the momentum going by continuing to reward students for their efforts. We know that positive reinforcements will help students make lasting academic and behavior changes.
