My students need a projector to experience the world of scientific discovery first hand.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My class is comprised of highly motivated special education students. My students often come from neglected homes and poverty stricken neighborhoods: in most situations, school is the warmest part of their day. Despite their personal situations, they come to school each day with a lust for knowledge
My students come from outer-borough Brooklyn neighborhoods in the lowest strata of socio-economic conditions.
They lead difficult lives often filled with neglect, abuse and other domestic tribulations. Our school specializes in providing a highly structured, loving and rigorous academic environment to give these at-risk youth the best opportunities they can get.
My Project
How can students learn to love this world without seeing and hearing how incredibly beautiful and complex it is? Learning about the complexity of our world puts students in awe. Being in a state of awe humbles aggression, low self-efficacy, low self-esteem, depression, pessimism and many behavior problems. With a projector, our students will be able to hear, see, and experience their vast inner and outer worlds together as a group.
If you contribute to this project, you'll be helping at-risks students at the very lowest social-economic strata see how enthralling our everyday reality can be.
This project will bring the complex and beautiful world of science directly to our students, who are often doomed to occupy just a small corner of it.
Everyday, our students will experience the world of science in a hands-on manner. They will then be able to see, through their projector, how their experimentation has been conducted by researchers and scientists all over the world.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
