This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are part of a public school program that is densely populated and ethnically diverse city where my students come from a variety of backgrounds, cultures, and experiences. They are an extremely talented bunch of hard working students, and I have had the opportunity over the last few years to watch them grow and develop into the award winning musicians they are. Last year my advanced mixed ensemble, Chamber Singers, took first place in Anaheim as part of the Heritage festival, and received the Adjudicator Award presented to the ensemble with the most positive remarks from the judges.

My Project

Choral risers are a staple part of vocal education. It allows every student to be heard and seen with comfort and ease. Students can see the director from each riser, and that contributes to their learning how to watch the conductor as well as how to sing as an ensemble. These risers will create a safer learning space in which my students can sit and sing properly. Currently, our risers are very old and do not support my students in their vocal pedagogy. The choral program is one that has been built over the last 20 years, our program needs some new risers to go with the tradition we have created.
