This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I work at a school where the students receive free or reduced cost lunch due to the low socioeconomic level of our families. Students come to my office with various needs, and may be experiencing food insecurity in their day to day life.
We have all been there before- unable to focus, grouchy, not wanting to be there, and mentally not present-- because of hunger.
These "hangries" pull kids away from their learning and they miss out on all of the great lessons that their teachers have prepared.
I'm requesting snacks so we can start off the school year with a reservoir ready to go.
The team I work with supports students with IEPs, either through groups or 1:1 and it is nice to be able to offer different snack options during sessions and I know the kids appreciate and look forward to it.
