Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

We have been learning about animals and writing about them, and want to have students run a community service project supporting dogs in our neighborhood. The children will brainstorm who to help, and choose if they help a dog park, dog rescue, dog school, swimming area, or veterinarian.

Our community is home to numerous dogs that bring joy and companionship to families.

However, many of these dogs lack sufficient toys and enrichment, leading to behavioral issues and reduced quality of life. By engaging students in this project, we will not only improve the well-being of local dogs but also instill a sense of community responsibility and care for animals. Students will run the project by choosing who we will support and how we can support them.

Objectives:

To Provide Enrichment: Distribute toys, bones, grooming tools, leashes, feeding toys, and tennis balls to at least 100 dogs in the community.

To Foster Community Engagement: Involve local students in organizing events that promote animal welfare and community bonding. We will also give animal themed straw covers to the adults who work at the location the students choose.

The students will brainstorm ways to distribute the items, for example if they want to partner with a local shelter or distribute items to a local dog park. I want them to be a part of the process and decide. They will also bring other items to donate as well such as blankets or other items they feel like would support our community after talking to the Community. The can write to the chosen community service option and can tell them why we choose to help them.
