Help me give my students a stove, washing machine, a dryer, and gardening supplies to practice life skills such as cooking lessons, laundry, gardening, and other necessary skills to be a productive adult.
I teach students ranging from the ages of 12-22 in a specialized program for students with special needs behaviorally, emotionally, and/or intellectually. The highly diverse environment and needs of every student are demanding in nature. They come to our program needing assistance with social skills, behavioral intervention, academic deficits, and life skills for success.
All of my students are working on emotional regulation and anger management in order to become successful citizens.
Their goals include learning new trades as professions and being able to join the work force to become successful, self-sufficient adults. They're working towards these goals by learning to overcome barriers such as the ability to work positively with one another, accepting criticism, and directions. This process includes focusing on behavioral social skills while integrating academics to help them to fully flourish into the adult we all know they can become.
My Project
I am asking for appliances and furniture that will help create the facility to teach basic life skills to students who are working towards graduation and life after secondary school.
By purchasing a washer, dryer, dishwasher, dining room furniture, gardening beds, seeds and tools, we will be able to create the appropriate facility to teach these highly valuable life skills.
For many these skills have never been taught and desperately need these basic survival skills. By building a fully functioning kitchen, laundry room, and garden, there will be an available opportunity to teach life skills. While simultaneously using it to build community with parents and have family dinner nights in our own school facilities. This will help students find pride in learning these skills and build a stronger rapport for students, teachers, and parents.
This facility is going to take a lot of generosity of our donors and a lot of labor from our staff. However, the pay off will be 10x more rewarding when we see the pride on our student's faces when they serve their parents a homemade meal, made specifically by them.
