Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our school serves roughly 400 students in the Outer Mission neighborhood of San Francisco. Many of our students and families have experienced complex stress or trauma, displacement/gentrification, and/or other health-related issues.
Our students experience many challenges in and outside of school, but they have a tremendous amount of resiliency.
I work in the Health and Wellness Center with a team of providers. We notice that some students are struggling in their academic classes because of illnesses, somatic complaints, internalized feelings, and physical or emotional discomfort. Students utilize our Health and Wellness Center to help address those needs.
My Project
Our school is focused on meeting the academic, social, and emotional needs of our students. Our Wellness Team supports our teachers in creating a learning environment that is safe and supportive for all our students.
We hope to equip our students with the skills and resources they need to thrive in our social world.
The amazing therapy resources in this order will allow our students to learn critical skills for identifying and communicating feelings, managing and coping with stressors, and maintaining healthy relationships with self and others.
We do our best to address and support our students' needs, but we often lack the resources we need to provide for them. That's why we so appreciate your help!
