Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students have vastly different needs. In a room where some students can read fluently, while others have yet to master their letter sounds, I'm realizing that traditional lecture-style teaching simply doesn't accommodate their individualized needs.
In order for all of my students to thrive, I must maximize the individual and small-group instruction that they need and deserve.
However, in a high-energy classroom of six and seven year olds, "silent independent work time" is easier said than done.
My Project
My students need a listening center, equipped with materials to promote both literacy and behavior growth. Specifically, students will have access to Multicultural Read-Alongs to help build self-esteem and develop their understanding of others. Additionally, the Letter Sounds Activity program will develop phonemic awareness by focusing on beginning and ending sounds.
This project will transform my classroom in a number of ways.
Not only will this center build essential listening skills (critical to a child's academic, social, and emotional development), but it will also allow me to focus my energy on small-group instruction.
