This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students live in one of the poorest congressional districts in the United States, not too far from the richest district. Entering sixth grade, they are already years behind their more affluent counterparts in both math and reading.

We don't let their zip code dictate their future.

Our goal as a school is to get our students to and through college. Our students are three times more likely to graduate from a four year college or university than the low-income average. Our students work hard and have fun.

My Project

I teach 90-minute math classes every day. It is unreasonable to expect any student with ADD, ADHD, or autism to pay attention and be engaged during that entire time. Many of my students struggle because of their special needs and without them being addressed appropriately and without giving them the tools to manage their deficits, I am setting them up for failure.

By donating to this project, you will help to level the playing field for many ADD, ADHD and Autistic students who are not being given the proper tools and support to address their special needs.

The materials that I am requesting have been developed to help combat some of the issues that many of the students experience. All students are different and we shouldn't expect every child to learn the same way. Many of my students have difficulty sitting still for more than 5 minutes at a time. The Air Stability Cushions and the Bouncy Chair Bands will allow these students to move their legs and their bodies while still being able to learn in a classroom environment. The Spikey Sensory Balls and the Monkey Stringy Balls will help some of my more fidgety students to do something with their hands while at their desks. Instead of drumming on the desk and/or tapping their pencils, these fidget toys will help them channel their extra energy.
