it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My students are so resilient and also have a lot of mental health needs that need support from all educators and their families in schools.
Now more than ever, our students need mental health support at the place they spend the most time; their school.
As a school social worker, I get to help students have access to a bilingual therapist and as well as someone who came from their community.
Please help me provide my students fidgets, therapy workbooks and sand tray toys to use during their healing process. Fidgets help our students calm down whether they have Anxiety or ADHD or just need a tool to use in class. The workbooks have a variety of worksheets or stories that help students make the therapeutic connection to their own stories. Lastly, as I go between multiple school sites, it would be helpful to have a set of sand tray toys that students can use to process traumatic events or help communicate intergenerational wounds they might not be able to verbally communicate in therapy.
As a public school social worker, I came back to my community to support and create bridges to mental health access for our at-need communities. My goal is to have the tools necessary to support my students and make mental health equitable.
