Our school is an inner city middle school serving a diverse population of over 1000 students and their families including a large number of English Language Learners and low social-economic families.
More than 50% of our students at our school qualify for free and reduced lunch.
This impacts many of the students' school life, including the students' access to computers and the Internet outside of the school. Computer literacy has become increasingly important in their everyday lives and definitely will when they enter the workforce. We need to provide our students with more consistent exposure to blending learning, researching, and problem-solving through the use of technology.
My Project
My goal is to achieve a 1:1 computer to student ratio for my students. Twenty-five new Chromebooks will achieve that in 4 out of 5 of my classes. I'm hoping for funding for 4 this year working towards a 25 total over the next few years.
Many of my students do not have access to either computers or the internet at home or in the classroom.
I am working towards using blended learning in my classroom and much of my instruction and teaching is blended when I am able to reserve the computer lab.
In a Blended Learning classroom, much of the content of my instruction is delivered to the students through the use of Google classroom, as well as other online resources. We also use an on online textbook. Using the Chromebook and the internet greatly increases their ability to research and view far more information than from a textbook alone. Also, with Google classroom I am able to interact more with each student individually.
