Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students come from a wide variety of backgrounds originating from all of New York City's five boroughs. Most of the students come from low-income homes and so asking parents to contribute to expensive programs is difficult.
The school offers students the chance to develop skills for careers in health professions and so will enable them to prosper economically.
The majority of the curriculum is Science-focused and students only take one Arts-themed class. I aim to provide them with the best possible experience to enrich their understanding of music.
My Project
Students have a lot to express and need a healthy and productive way to do so. By teaching students to record their voices and potentially publish their work, we can empower a generation to be able to represent themselves in song, spoken word, poetry, podcasts, and presentations.
We are raising funds to purchase and install and audio recording booth that is soundproofed from outside noises found in schools and the city.
Students will learn how to record their voices using professional equipment, edit and revise their work to a high standard, and to be able to share their work with an audience. Having access to a professional booth will increase engagement because students will be impressed with the results and feel like they are working on par with the artists they admire.
Many students become frustrated while recording because of noise from other students or sounds from outside. They also are too embarrassed to record their voices while sitting in a class. Having a isolated vocal booth solves both of these issues and will increase student engagement dramatically.
