My Project

In the aftermath of a disaster, food, water, and other day-to-day needs can be extra challenging for our learners and their families to get. Hence, many youngsters look to their schools as a point of access for lots of necessary items. As a teacher, I'd like to be able to reward my students for bearing up under hard circumstances, staying on task, and doing their best. And when asked what sort of rewards they'd appreciate, the kids (most of whom are from already economically disadvantaged communities) invariably ask for snacks they can enjoy in class. Another request they often make is for bottled water, for when they get thirsty while doing their work.

During times of natural disasters or other crises --and sometimes in between such times -- our city has frequent water-pressure issues and boil-water notices, so the school drinking fountains are often not a viable option, and potable water is in high demand.

We teachers' personal budgets are tight, but we know that making a few snacks and bottles of water available to our kids in the classroom is one way to show the students we care about them and to reward them for doing what's been asked of them, especially in tough times.
