Help Students Project Their Success with Technology!

My students need a digital LCD projector.

  • $1,050 goal

Hooray! This project is fully funded

I teach sixth grade science and reading on a team that serves approximately 110 students. The school is in a very diverse community with many low-income students, and I am often expected to integrate technology into the learning experience.

Every classroom should have some element of technology implemented within the instruction. Teachers should have the resources to plan these types of technological activities, projects, and lessons, however most teachers encounter the same obstacle teachers at my school are facing. At my school, we presently have ONLY two digital projectors to serve the entire student population. You can only imagine the hardship of scheduling and "checking out" the projector amongst the 60 other faculty members who need it as well; you can only imagine the quality and condition of the projectors since they are in constant use and being transported from room to room on a constant basis without the proper maintenance and care; you can only imagine the limitations of its use, when you can only sign out a projector for a day or two at the most, without access for a longer period of time restricting ideas for optimal student success. Minimal access to technological resources means the opportunities for students to interact with technology is also minimal. In my opinion, that is unfortunate to the many students here at my school who could be learning without these obstacles we face here in our building.

If I had an LCD projector, I would not only be able to integrate new fantastic resources, but also be able to demonstrate computer software to an entire class and answer troubleshooting questions for the class as a whole, as opposed to addressing students one by one. Students would be able to use time more efficiently in class, and we would be less constrained by the availability of the school LCD projector and computer lab. They would practice a variety of activities: PowerPoint presentations, multimedia, clips and movies, virtual labs, and the list can go on and on. With science, the use of technology, in the form of this projector, makes the ideas and possibilities endless.

Your donation will make it possible for me to fully bring "technology" to students in my classroom. You will make it much more likely that my students will be engaged and interested in science at such an important age, and help them advance in a world where technology is constantly evolving. Your generous donation guarantees endless opportunity, enhancement of the curriculum, and success in the education of my students.
